The federal government will spend 7 million dollars on providing public Internet access facilities in remote indigenous communities over the next four years, as part of the Closing the Gap initiatives announced by the Council of Australian Governments in Darwin. COAG will provide and maintain public Internet facilities in communities where there is limited or no such access. It said the service would give people access to important means of communication and information to fully participate in society. Australian IT, 2 July 2009
