Chinese, Australia universities joint degree

Five universities in China and Australia signed an agreement on July 29 to set up the Shangri-La International Education Alliance in Shangri-La county, South China’s Yunnan province. AsiaOne News, 30 July 2010


International student hotline launched

Student Assistance Line, the first national after-hours personal support hotline for international students in Australia, was officially launched at Swinburne University by Bruce Baird AM, author of the Federal Government’s recent review of the international education sector and overseas student welfare. Australian authorities are hoping a digital campaign to raise safety awareness among international students goes viral. Think Before – A Student Safety Initiative, is being distributed in 14 languages through the internet, mobile phone applications and social networking sites to students before and after they arrive in Australia. WA artist wins top prize

WA-born desert artist Jimmy Donegan has won the country’s most prestigious Indigenous art prize at his first try. Donegan won the $40,000 overall prize and the $4000 painting prize, one of five categories at the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Awards. The West Australian, 14 August 2010.
