Measures to safeguard education for overseas students studying in Australia

The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, warned education providers that they risk being shut down if they don’t comply with rules relating to international students. Ms Gillard was speaking in Parliament at the introduction of an Amendment Bill to the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000. DEEWR Media release, 19 August 2009

Australia-Malaysia Institute: Strengthening Australia’s ties with Malaysia

The Australia-Malaysia Institute (AMI) has recognised the achievements of six Victorian Schools that participated in the Australia-Malaysia sister school pilot program with a contribution of $2000 in appreciation of their work in making the pilot project a success. The Sister School Program began with the twinning of six schools in Victoria with six schools in Malaysia in 2008. The schools have been active in building their relationships through regular student communications via email, blogs and wikis and cooperation in the development of joint curriculum in the fields of English, Maths, the Arts, Science and Languages. The program included two way teacher exchanges and some student exchanges. DFAT, 18 August 2009.

Strengthening the Australia-Korea bilateral relationship

The Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector, Senator Ursula Stephens, has met with Representative, Cho Yoon-sun, Spokesperson of the ruling Grand National Party of the Republic of Korea. Discussion focussed on issues relating to our education systems and job creation initiatives. The strength of the Australia-Korea bilateral education relationship is also reflected in the high number of Korean students choosing to study in Australia each year. New videos show how researchers use advanced technology

New videos��showing how JISC is helping researchers achieve faster, better and different research through virtual research environments have just been released. The videos feature projects from JISC’s virtual research environment (VRE) programme, which is trying to find ways to connect people and speed up research processes across disciplines.
