Social networking at work �� fear not!

With the arrival of Facebook, MySpace and Bebo, along with the more apparently work-friendly Linkedin and Xing, social networking has appeared on the business horizon and is causing quite a stir. What should organisations and their managers do about these sites? Should they ban them or encourage their use? Which sites should they use? Are their staff going to become more productive through embracing these tools or waste even more time than they do now?


Boom in Canberra’s overseas enrolments

International student enrolments in the ACT have shot up this year, as the global economic crisis makes Canberra a more financially competitive city to obtain a degree. The University of Canberra has accepted 66 per cent more international students so far this year than it had at the same time last year, and vice-chancellor Professor Stephen Parker says the figures strengthen international education’s place as the ACT’s second-top export after government services. ACS speeds web publication – Society tests free online access to peer-reviewed, accepted manuscripts

The American Chemical Society began a pilot program that will make some journal papers available online about two to seven weeks quicker than was the case previously. Authors publishing in ACS Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Journal of Proteome Research, and Molecular Pharmaceutics can opt to have their peer-reviewed, accepted manuscripts posted on the ACS Publications website within three days of acceptance. World’s best colleges: top Australian and New Zealand universities

U.S. News & World Report’s World’s Best Colleges and Universities rankings based on the Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings identified these to be the world’s top universities in 2008.
